Resident Elder
Vince Simon
Vince served as Interim CEO for Ksalsuti before assuming his current position as resident Elder. Vince is in the latter part of his professional career and has been involved in various projects related to Indigenous communities. Having been resident in one most of his life, he has lived and seen the struggles of Indigenous peoples. He helped in setting up programs to help the people who were impacted by the colonial era including the residential school system. He also designed a healing program for an addictions rehabilitation centre. He has been in management for several years where his team made submissions for funding to help with capital and program costs. Most of these were successful and in one instance, the provincial government awarded funding to their organization to start and operate two new youth centres.

Nichole Elizabeth
Nichole is a lawyer, former Registered Nurse and Certified Health Executive with the Canadian College of Health Leaders (CCHL). Born on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Nichole's path has led her to live and work in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Northwest Territories. Mi’kmaq on her mom’s side, her ancestors were dispossessed of their community's land in what became known as Elmwood, NS. Nichole acknowledges and embraces her urban upbringing and her mixed heritage with Irish ancestry via Newfoundland on her dad’s side.
As a nurse Nichole worked primarily in emergency medicine and later became the Manager of Clinics, Telehealth and Medical Records in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Nichole has a Master's of Health Administration and also graduated from Schulich School of Law with a specialty in health law and policy. She worked as a member of the public inquiry team tasked with investigating the 2020 mass casualty in Nova Scotia and served as in-house legal counsel and chief privacy officer with Doctors Nova Scotia before joining Ksalsuti. Committed to volunteering, Nichole sits on a number of boards intersecting healthcare, health policy and law.

Finance Manager
Roberto Urgel
Roberto has worked his entire professional career in Accounting & Finance where he served in various industries from law firms, accounting service providers, shipping and logistics, storage solutions and manufacturing. He is a graduate of BS Accountancy, and had extensive experience in the area of corporate finance having worked half of his career in Singapore and now in Canada.

He has been involved and a regular volunteer in various charitable organizations in his personal capacity. He is the finance head in his local church in Toronto. Additionally, he did volunteer work for a non-profit, mainly doing finance work and supporting children through their church’s ministry when he was in Singapore. He is deeply committed to supporting Indigenous communities and other vulnerable sectors through robust accounting and finance systems that would build the capacity of organizations in their vision to empower people and their communities.

Ashley Crawford
Ashley is a health administrator and researcher with expertise in mental wellness and person-
centered care. Originally from Nova Scotia and raised in New Brunswick, Ashley has always
been intrigued by different cultures, communities, and systems. This curiosity led her to pursue a career focused on equitable, community-driven healthcare.
Ashley holds a bachelor’s degree in social anthropology from Dalhousie University (2018) and a Master of Science in Medicine (Applied Health Services Research) from Memorial University (2021). Ashley is passionate about creating healthcare systems that are inclusive, sustainable, and rooted in the needs of the communities they serve. At Ksalsuti, she is helping to support the implementation of Sankewi-pomawsuwikuwam – A Peaceful Place to Live, and the Monoqan Primary Care Clinic.

Administrative Assistant
Sophia Simon
Sophia is an administrative assistant joining Ksalsuti to assist with meetings, record keeping,
monitoring social media, and providing oversight to the Turtle Island book series. Sophia’s
experience in customer service and team management roles has made her organized and
passionate about creating a productive and compassionate work environment.
Sophia has completed two years of post-secondary education towards a sociology major.
Much of her studies to date examines the effect of social inequities on population outcomes,
notably the effect of colonialism on Indigenous peoples. Having Mi’kmaw and Acadian roots
in New Brunswick, Sophia is committed to helping those in her community, ensuring a sense
of belonging for all.

Michael Hennessey
Mike is a Licensed Counselling Therapist (LCT) with the College of Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick (CCTNB) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). A member of Pabineau First Nation, one of Mike’s passions is improving mental health in First Nations across New Brunswick. He is qualified to work with clients dealing with mental health challenges associated with stress, anxiety, depression, family conflict, and more. He currently works in private practice with students in elementary schools and middle schools in New Brunswick. His clinical work with Indigenous students will inform the writing process and distribution of these resources.

Luisa Montoya
Luisa is an experienced professional with a proven record in securing funding from a variety of sources, including: proposal writing, partnership development, and creating revenue generating opportunities. In addition to Luisa’s experience in securing funding, she has worked with various organizations to grow and ensure long-term sustainability. Areas of expertise include: Human Resources, Business Plan creation, and Legislations and Regulations. In addition to her significant experience in business and organizational development, Luisa is also an experienced researcher and consultant in policy creation, with almost two decades of experience in gender, health and priority populations. Particular areas of interest are program outcome evaluations and culturally safe program creation.
